Joyful Noise Friday 7th September
RIDE+STRIDE Saturday 8th
Why not join the UK's biggest fundraising day to keep Historic Churches looking beautiful. Ride or stride around as many churches as you can, or set your own challenge, and you can raise funds for both the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust, and St Mary's. If you would like to know more, contact Richard Davies on 01865 376053.
BISHOP'S PILGRIMAGE PRAYER WALK: Sunday 9th
Bishop Steven is completing a pilgrimage prayer walk to every church of the Oxford Archdeaconry, and on Sunday 9th September he will be visiting our three churches before walking through to north and central Oxford. Bishop Steven will bless each church as he visits, and continues to the next at the following approx times: +Steven welcomes us to join him for all or part of the journey each day. Whether you walk for a few minutes or the whole day, or simply want to pray with the bishop at one of the churches en route, all are welcome. All you need is a packed lunch, appropriate walking attire and a heart for prayer. For route and practical details, and to let the diocese know you'll be joining in, please visit the Oxford Prayer Walk page.
VINTAGE and RETRO: Sunday 9th
There will be another opportunity to buy attractive ceramics and glassware in the Refectory after the 10am service at St Mary's K on Sunday 9th.
GATEHOUSE COLLECTION: Thursday 13th
Collections for the drop-in centre for the homeless start again on Thursday, September 13th. Anyone can contribute, either by putting items in the box in the Refectory by September 9th, by giving items directly to Sarah Karatzios (St Mary's) or Margaret Day (St John's) or by delivering them to 60, Cherry Close by 4pm on the 13th. Bear in mind that there are no cooking facilities at the Gatehouse, but they would welcome anything with which to make sandwiches - bread, spread, fillings, tea, coffee, Cup-a-Soup, cakes, biscuits, and sugar. They have also asked for any sleeping bags that you no longer want for rough sleepers. If you bought just one extra item for the Gatehouse when you are shopping, it would make a real difference! We would also welcome people to make sandwiches on delivery day. Please contact Sarah or Margaret for further information. If anyone feels able to help by delivering the contributions to the Gatehouse on the collection days each month, we would be grateful as the same people have been doing it for years and would welcome a bit more help. You would only have to do it once or twice a year. Thank you for your help.
BIBLE READING CHALLENGE Thurs 13th
The next meeting for those doing the Bible Reading Challenge is on Thursday 13th September at 8pm, St Mary's Refectory.
'OPEN SPACE' SERVICES PLANNING: Sunday 16th
The Open Space services are planned and led by different combinations of people each month with a lead clergy or LLM to steer them. We are always ready to welcome new people to help plan an Open Space. You don’t need qualifications, and you don’t have to have been attending church for ages to qualify! Why not stay for coffee after church on 16th Sep when we will set out the chosen broad themes for the coming year and invite interested people to join a planning team for each month. September's theme is 'loneliness' and October is about Bible reading. Do you have musical / dramatic / creative suggestions? Do you like helping others to find ways of praying / connecting with God? Do you like working in a small group to produce something really good? Would you like to lead an aspect of worship? (no obligation) Lots of people have been involved so far of all ages and all experiences. You are welcome too. For more info speak to any of the clergy team.
PARISH LUNCH Wednesday 19th
Lunch is held at the Willow Tree on the third Wednesday of each month at 12.30pm. Please contact Peter or Janet Jeffreys on 01865 580659.
MUSICAL BANQUET Sat 22nd, 7.30pm
The acclaimed early music trio (featuring countertenor soloist) are returning to St Mary's for another feast of musical entertainment, with beautiful melodies and a generous sprinkling of fun. Tickets £10/8 on the door, with all proceeds going to St Mary's Choristers. We are very fortunate to have this professional trio performing for us on this basis, so don't miss it!
