About this deal

The Spirit of Christmas is the title given to two adult stop motion animated short films created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The two films were released at different periods—the first in 1992, and the second in 1995—and form the basis for the animated series South Park, the latter short featuring more established depictions of the series' setting and characters. To differentiate between them, the respective films have been retroactively referred to as Jesus vs. Frosty and Jesus vs. Santa. A clip of both films appears on two respective billboards during the opening sequence for South Park's first four seasons (prior to the fourth season episode "Fourth Grade"). But, I have an even more serious objection to Christian parents teaching their children that Santa Claus is real. You see, young children tend to believe nearly everything that their parents teach. Parents say to their young, impressionable children, “Jesus is real; you just can’t see Him”. And, the same parents say to the same children, “Santa is real; you just cannot see him”.

With the rise of the Elf on the Shelf has come increased leverage to control children’s behavior. Ever present is the lingering threat of losing out on “gifts” and having a sad and shame-filled Christmas day. Discernment Drop the elf / Santa spy. If you want your kids to have integrity, they need to find the value of doing what’s right because it’s right. This is part of intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is more powerful and long-lasting than extrinsic (rewards). Manipulating them to get them to behave can make our lives as parents easier in the short term, but in the long term risks making them into hypocrites. Prioritize Jesus Regardless, forcing a child into a stranger’s lap for a photo op or to whisper wishes betrays their body boundaries. Your parents who’ve told you no throughout the year are about to be overridden by Santa. Be good and he’ll give you what your stingy parents won’t. Of course, as mentioned above, these gifts are dependent on behavior. So they aren’t really gifts, but compensation. A definitive part of having gratitude is recognizing and valuing the kindness of the giver. Santa gets his toys from enslaved elves and magic. Alternatively, the kids could receive gifts based on the kindness of those who love them. Sharing the beauty of this truth gives them a taste of unearned grace and an opportunity to experience genuine gratitude. ContentmentFor God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Obedience that pleases God is done out of love. I want my kids to do what I tell them as an act of love and trust, not to please some judgmental old man who’s holding all the cards. I like the idea of Santa only giving small gifts leaving the good stuff to be from friends and family. I think it makes a better opportunity for gratitude. You can say or write thank you notes to people you know and see. It’s important to consider the role secrets play in your household. And consider what makes a good reason to hide the truth. What I Was Taught about Santa as a Child

Unfortunately, with the exception of the “naughty or nice” aspect, the Santa question does not lend itself to a hard and fast rule. Some will feel that there is enough of a problem to warrant a ban. Others will decide that as long as they handle it wisely, Santa can play a small role in their Christmas. Both can be wise decisions. Christians have the freedom to make their own choices and follow their own consciences, as Paul describes in places like Romans 14 and 1 Corinthians 10. The Spirit of Christmas is the name of two different animated short films made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who would later become famous for creating the animated series South Park. To differentiate the two, they are often referred to as Jesus vs. Frosty and Jesus vs. Santa. While most Christians are able to generally balance the fun of Santa with the importance of Jesus, some are ready to cancel Santa altogether. Is Santa Claus built on dubious beliefs? Is faith in Jesus Christ based on assumptions? Jesus Exists

Concluding Remarks

And here’s another reason why. One year, a friend shared that after spending a great deal of money on a very nice gift “from Santa” for her child, it was almost immediately broken. When the mother got upset, the child responded, “Why do you care? You didn’t pay for it.” At 2 she probably won’t remember or “get” much.. as she grows older, it will matter more. Some ideas of how to respond to her questions are. L]et us not pass judgment on one another any longer … let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. (Rom 14:13,18) Johnson-Woods, Toni (2007). Blame Canada!: South Park and popular culture. Continuum. p.4. ISBN 978-0826417305. A cheaply done 5 minute Chrismtas card....and it's pretty good. it's about Jesus coming to South Park to find Santa and they get in a fight (killing Kenny). Meanwhile the foul mouthed boys cuss and cuss and even meet Brian Boitano. i watched it on the internet and I'm not sure where to find it. It's good though and any fan of South Park should watch it. Contains language and violence.
