I thought Royal Wedding ended on such a strong note-there was an actual plot there and character development. This book is just about Mia being a lush, over eating, needing to get some Lady Clairol, and needing to put Grandmere in a home. Princess on the Brink – At last, Mia is a junior. A upperclassperson. So why is it that everything is going so terribly wrong? What is she doing in Intro to Creative Writing? When she has made it through Algebra and Geometry, why must she be faced with Precalculus? Finnula is kind, generous, witty, and stubborn. I really liked her relationship with her siblings and the villagers.

It is a charming, sweet, adventurous historical romance with lots of humor, mystery, and loveable characters. I loved this book so much gave me real Classic and Renessance vibes to it!! It was a book about a Princess who falls for a Prince named Hugo and they fall in love but than tragedy strikes them as well as a bunch of other things too. It was like she became another person entirely and Hugo was basically just a pot full of testosterone, that's all I can think of him. He rages like a baboon and feels clearly nothing but sexual desire for Finnula but she took it to mean true love? He's a tall, handsome knight with a secret. She's an adventurous beauty with more than a few secrets of her own. Finnula needs money for her sister's dowry, and fast. Hugo Fitzstephen, returning home to England from the Crusades with saddlebags of jewels, has money, and lots of it. What could be simpler than to kidnap him and hold him for ransom?I'll stop. (I'm worse than Mia sometimes.) I won't even go on a rant about how Michael somehow, despite having no experience with vaccines, manages to produce one that is 99.9% effective(!) and Mia doesn't so much as consider making the details available to other countries, or her claim that the police in Genovia are universally beloved. Royal Wedding Disaster (set during Royal Wedding, of course) – Olivia’s half-sister Mia is very busy learning how to take over the country while trying to plan a wedding and her father is actually getting remarried himself-to Mia’s mother!-and spends most of his time “renovating” the summer palace, although Grandmere says he is just hiding from the wedding preparations. Olivia hardly gets to see either of them. Fortunately, Grandmere has her own plans for Mia’s wedding, and needs Olivia’s help to pull them off. Also I genuinely love most of the book but somewhere, the "awareness" that it tries to reflect crosses the line into preachy... not so much that I'd give the book less than 4 stars, but definitely enough that I CANNOT in good conscience give it all 5. It's not fair to the OG books... Both Finnula’a and Hugo’s personalities and motivation are nicely elaborated, and the secondary characters are also well-drawn. Ms. Cabot is able to characterize them with only a few sentences: Finnula’s family members, Peter, the Laroche family, the troubadour, Brissac sheriff, even the sheriff’s mom are distinguishable.

Overall, this was super entertaining and a fun read for all Princess Diaries fans. I wasn't expecting much of a plot. The plot is predictable, but it is comical and enjoyable. However, the plot only really appears in the last half of Ransom My Heart and it's extremely clear who the antagonists are.
