About this deal

Basically a UDM-Pro, plus PoE out on the 8-port switch, 128 GB of internal storage, and an upgraded 2.5 Gbps RJ45 WAN port. Downgrades to dual-core ARM CPU, vs the quad-core on the UDM. Lower IDS/IPS throughput as a result. we complemented our aggregator Unifi Switch 24 with a 16 POE-150W switch so that we can support current and future PoE devices like the Cloud Key Gen 2, Ubiquiti Unifi WiFi APs, and Ubiquiti Unifi Protect video cameras We recommend that you protect your networks from harmful outdoor environments and destructive ESD events with industrial-grade, shielded Ethernet cable from Ubiquiti. For more details, visit: ui.com/toughcable Ubiquiti still sells almost all of the 1st generation models of UniFi switches. They are older, but they can be better options for some networks. Unlike with the USG/USG-Pro, the 1st generation switches come without major performance limitations. Older Desktop/Small Switches

Optional: The config can also be exported if preferred. The following example exports the output to the config.txt: You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following ways: Enterprise models have higher PoE budgets, faster interfaces such as 2.5 Gbps RJ45 Ethernet, and the features available in the Pro models We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons: UniFi OS Console - Can run all UniFi applications (Network, Protect, Talk, Connect, Access, and UID)as noted by many other consumers, there is the persistent, loud, high-pitch fan noise. Even though our switching gear is in a closed data closet, I can hear the USG Pro 4’s fan noise upstairs in my study. This underlying OS difference causes some other differences. The UDM and UXG lines do not support editing the config.gateway.json file. By editing the configuration file manually, you were able to access features that Ubiquiti doesn’t put in the controller GUI. It also let you access hidden settings, and tweak features to work how you want. Normally, behind the scenes, the UniFi controller edits your configuration files for you. That only works with the features that Ubiquiti officially supports. If you’ve ever had to deploy a UniFi network, you know there are a many features not in the GUI. Unfortunately there is nothing like this going forward, and you are limited to what Ubiquiti shows in the controller. We are very excited to announceUniFi OS- a shared platform for all UniFi Controllers. Key features: The pro models have lots of PoE, support redundant power via the USP-RPS, and have some limited L2+/L3 features like static routing and a DHCP server Before customizing firewall or NAT rules, take note of the rule numbers used in the UniFi Network Firewall.Default firewall rules start at either 3001 or 6001, and NAT rules will also start at 6001 (which don't overlap with firewall rules). The custom rules created in the config.gateway.jsonfile cannot have duplicate rule numbers with the existing rules in the USG, or there will be a provisioning loop. It is recommended to put custom rules before the existing ruleset, as the lower number will win between two matching rules.

A comprehensive overview of your Network Health is readily available in the new dashboard. Monitor your network’s vitals and make on-the-fly adjustments as needed. Use the configurable reporting and analytics to monitor large user groups and expedite troubleshooting. Advanced search and sorting capabilities make network management more efficient. The UDM and UXG run a different underlying operating system than the USG. The CPU is an easy way to tell. Older MIPS-based devices EdgeRouters and the USG run EdgeOS. ARM based devices like the UDM and UXG run UniFi OS. An ARM port of EdgeOS is unlikely. UniFi OS is a custom Linux distribution made with Buildroot Linux that mostly follows Debian standards. In their announcement, Ubiquiti said this about UniFi OS:To remove a certain advanced configuration, just delete the section pertinent to that configuration in the config.gateway.json. To completely remove all advanced configurations created in the config.gateway.json, delete the file or rename it. This will void all manual changes. The USG will be provisioned with the current config contained within the UniFi Network application. NOTE: When editing this customjson file, it is not necessary to include everything. You must only include the complete "path" to the items you have edited, anything outside of the path can be omitted. Used to feed redundant DC power to the UDM-Pro, and 2nd generation Pro/Enterprise switches that support it. Not a switch, but does have an in-band Ethernet management port.

The DNAT rule # ranges are from 1-4999, and the Source/Masquerade rule numbers are from 5000-9999. If you wanted to add a port forward (DNAT) in the config.gateway.json for WAN2 in a multiWAN (load-balance) setup, this is what the config.gateway.json would look like with only this particular NAT rule: User Tip: An easy way to test the validity of the json file is: python -m json.tool config.gateway.json Deleting Changes or Reverting to Previous State Because hardware acceleration is disabled, Ubiquiti says that enabling IPS will affect the USG’s maximum throughput: With DPI on, gigabit performance is possible. With IPS/IDS, throughput drops to 85 Mbps. When being used as a VPN endpoint, throughput is limited to 40 Mbps. See note on hardware offloading below. First observations - configuration of Ubiquiti USG-PRO-4

Only time will tell how the development goes for the UXG-Pro. If you have an existing UniFi network with your own controller, this is probably going to be a better fit that the UDM or UDM-Pro. The unannounced base UXG should be a good little router, if Ubiquiti can get the software right. All of the Dream Machines and UniFi OS Consoles are based on modern ARM processors and Ubiquiti's new UniFi OS software platform. You can’t create custom JSON config files for them, but a limited set of manual configuration changes and Linux commands can be run via SSH, if you know what you’re doing. None of these can be adopted to an external UniFi Network controller besides the UXG-Pro. Never a dropped device connection!! The Netgear would constantly drop devices from the network requiring a reboot (angry face emoji). Currently the system has ~ 60 connected devices and not 1 has ever dropped. For outdoor applications, shielded Category 5 (or above) cabling should be used for all wired Ethernet connections and should be grounded through the AC ground of the power supply.
