About this deal

As much as I enjoyed the first book, I think I like this one even better. Maybe it's because the characters were so well written, they feel like family now. I really enjoy Ryan and Anna's relationship .. lots of love, lots of humor. And she can read him like a book ..so there's no more hiding from her. To find out more about the many philanthropic ventures Louise has founded and sponsored through her publishing imprint, Dark Skies Publishing, please visit ‘Philanthropy’. L.J. Ross knygos yra visiškas detektyvų makdonaldas: greitos, paprastos, skanios ir visada žinau ką gausi. To kaip ir užtektų, ką čia dar komentuoti? Ryan is ably assisted by friend and trust-worthy veteran DS Frank Phillips, senior to him in age but not in rank, which would be awkward if they weren’t so close. A scene when they are reminded of Ryan’s sister’s murder:

This body belongs to a girl murdered 10 years earlier, around June 21, the time of the Summer Solstice. We met some members of The Circle when a girl was murdered on Holy Island in December, during the Winter Solstice. This secret pagan cult is run by some highly respected community figures, including professional people involved with the investigations. Son,’ Phillips’ gravelly voice gentle, designed to soothe. ‘I know what’s going on inside your head.’ . . . [Ryan protests.] In May 2021, Louise was shortlisted for the prestigious Crime Writers’ Association ‘Dagger in the Library’ award, which recognises an author’s entire body of work having been consistently enjoyed by library borrowers around the United Kingdom, and an author’s longstanding support of libraries.

The Holy Island mystery was cleared up, and The Circle was thought to have disbanded, but no, they lived to fight another day, and by golly, they’re a nasty lot. There’s minimal discussion of cult ceremonies – it’s not that sort of book – but just enough to know the High Priest wields enormous power and influence with his satanic practices. And there's deadly competition within the cult. There’s not a lot of blood and gore, just enough to be cringe-worthy.This one started with a man being killed and Ryan being accused of killing him. That was a good start, I thought. And, wow, everything just went crazy in this book: Gregson going after Ryan, trying to get him thrown off the force, and the deal with Gregson’s wife, 2 prison/hospital deaths while they were already looking into another killer’s death. DCI Ryan has been ‘invited’ to meet his lovely girlfriend Anna’s mentor at a secluded old church. Of course, he’s immediately discovered standing, literally red-handed, over the old bloke’s body by a group of visiting pilgrims. Not a good day for Ryan, it would seem. Plus, he has to break the news to Anna that her beloved surrogate father has been shot to death, brains splattered on the old stone walls. The characters in this series are so realistic that it's as though I've known them for ages. Once again, through her excellent writing skills, and a balanced mix of suspense, humour and romance, the author has weaved yet another clever plot that kept me engrossed throughout. A dramatic scene towards the end left me gasp for air and I was on tenterhooks to see how it will all end. Who will die? Who will survive? I certainly wasn't expecting the ingenious (and believable) way in which the author ties up all loose ends at the end. Clever girl!

Murder and mystery are peppered with a sprinkling of romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular scenery of Hadrian's Wall country in Northumberland.” Her eleventh novel, The Infirmary, is a prequel story to the DCI Ryan series and is available as a major Audible Originals audio-drama starring Tom Bateman, Kevin Whately, Bertie Carvel, Hermione Norris and Alun Armstrong. There are moments of real tension, where you know that something is about to happen and you wonder just how Ryan and the team will overcome it. There are also more subtle moments which creep up on you. The narrative moves between Ryan and his team, to members of the ‘Circle’, but does so smoothly. And we revisit some characters who we have met before, adding an interesting dimension to the text.Begalo įtraukianti ir kaip visada veiksmo kupina istorija 👌 Tai išties lengvas detektyvas, kuris savo paprastumu labai įtraukia, nes autorė begalo įdomiai aprašinėja istorines salos vietas ir pagonių kulto tradicijas. Kiekviena knyga man didelis malonumas skaityti 😍 Tikrai džiaugiuosi atradusi šią seriją, nes neabejoju, kad su kiekviena knyga bus tik įdomiau 👌 Jeigu ieškai įtraukiančio detektyvo, tada rekomenduoju susipažinti su Rajenu 🤗 Having read and enjoyed the first two books in the DCI Ryan series, I was thrilled when the author offered me an ARC of her newest instalment, Heavenfield, and as soon as I received it I started reading it straight away. And once again I found myself lost in beautiful Northumberland... Nonetheless, it is the vintage crime authors such as Agatha Christie and Daphne du Maurier, which have had the most influence on her work with her DCI Ryan Mysteries. After practicing law for nearly ten years in London, the stressful environment and the long hours began to take their toll. I love the historical influences in the story. I love how L.J. Ross takes these dramatic landmarks and weaves a story around them, taking historical fact and adding in the ideology of a cult.
