Many historians credit discovery of bullet resistant glass to the Prince Rupert of the Rhine of the 17 th century. He accidentally placed a molten glass in a container of cold water. To his surprise that made the glass almost indestructible. But the first patented bullet-resistant glass was made by a French chemist, Édouard Bénédictus in 1909. It was more of a simplified variation of laminated safety glass. Benedictus used celluloid, a variant of plastic that was sandwiched between the two sheets of glass. Popular Science magazine envisaged the possible use of “bulletproof glass” in armored police vehicles in 1937. Our manufacturing process combines and bonds layers of glass with specially developed inter-layers during the lamination process. When thinner, lighter products are required, glass layers can be replaced with polycarbonate layers, resulting in a less bulky ballistic glass solution that still provides the required level of protection.The European Standard EN 1063 outlines the requirements for bullet-resistant glazing materials in Europe. It outlines seven different ballistic levels of protection, ranging from small handguns to high-powered rifles. To meet the EN standard, bulletproof glass must be able to withstand specific ballistic tests and meet other criteria, such as optical quality and impact resistance. The “AK47” or the “AK74”, the so-called “Kalaschnikow”, can be found in Russia, while an above-average number of weapons in private hands can generally be found in countries with a high number of violent crimes such as Iraq, Pakistan or South Africa. However, a slight blow to the narrow end shattered the entire piece immediately. It was very entertaining for people and they were very curious as well.
