About this deal

Since it is much healthier for kids to sleep in the dark, it’s only reasonable to expect that a good baby monitor should function well in the dark. We chose the infant optics monitor primarily because we did not want a monitor that could be hacked. In addition to not getting hacked, being off Wi-Fi also helps ensure that it will work all the time. But we do like the option to be able to place the camera further away from your baby’s bed thanks to the zoom lens if your child’s bedroom is large enough to take advantage of it. When testing with John’s 4-year-old Oliver, whose bed was across the room from the camera, and it was difficult to tell if he was actually in the bed.

This is especially convenient when the toddlers go mobile and you need to track their activity across the entire room. In our experience, only a few are features you'll use regularly, but the others may be something you want "just in case. According to Truly Mama Rachel, the camera on this monitor is so good that you can quite literally see your baby’s chest moving up and down.Large metal objects and objects that use Wi-Fi can interfere with the signal, and I've found that if I have my phone too close to the receiver, it can cause interference too. This is easily solvable if you can keep the monitor plugged in, but if you know you will be using the monitor for over 8 hours without access to an outlet, definitely keep that in mind. When charged properly before the first use, we were very impressed with how long the monitor kept a charge.

The Infant Optics DXR-8 video monitor didn't perform well compared to the competition in our best video monitor review. As per the instruction manual of your router, change the “Channel” from “Automatic” to “Channel 1” in “Settings”. There are many complaints about signal interference from wifi routers, inconsistent signals, faulty power connections, and premature battery failure. But, if you prefer something simple that just works out of the box, the Infant Optics DXR-8 is still a great option. We needed a new standalone monitor after our older one broke because the little ones ripped off the antenna!

If noise reduction from the parent unit is your number one priority, then by all means the DXR-8 Pro is the baby monitor for you. It sports a much more intutive interface than the original DXR-8, which is important, since you're accessing everything using four function buttons and a D-pad (which controls navigation and pan/tilt).I appreciated the peace of mind knowing the monitor couldn’t be hacked (a rarity, but still something to consider with a WiFi-enabled baby monitor). It’s handy for ensuring your baby’s room is comfortable and might help avoid cases of SIDS, but only if the sensor is accurate. Of course, the DXR-8, as a “traditional” non-wifi baby monitor is considered “plug and play” since there is no app configuration to consider.

I have not found anything I don’t like about this baby monitor which is why I gave it a perfect rating. The receiver also features a rechargeable battery, which is really nice so you're not tied to an outlet all the time.If you want a monitor that offers both a WiFi connection and a radio connection, check our review of the Kodak Cherish C520. Even though I didn't want a monitor that had an Internet connection in the first place, there are some really cool features that Wi-Fi-enabled monitors offer — like being able to check in on the baby via an app when you're away at work.
