About this deal

A thorough knowledge of all traffic signs is essential for all road users, not just new drivers or riders, making this the ideal companion to ensure your knowledge is up-to-date. Every body who drives on our roads should read this booklet ,and also those intending to drive on our roads . The updated code confirms that people cycling may pass slower-moving or stationary traffic on their right or left. Some junctions now include small cycle traffic lights at eye-level height, which may allow cyclists to move separately from or before other traffic. If you do not follow the other rules in the code, it can be used in evidence in court proceedings to establish liability.

Eager to showcase my knowledge of traffic signs and road etiquette, I decided to bring the Highway Code to the dinner table. If a self-driving vehicle needs to hand control back to the driver, it will give you enough warning to do this safely. Essential reading for all road users in England, Scotland and Wales, providing all the latest rules of the road and traffic signs.

There is new guidance in the code about routes and spaces which are shared by people walking, cycling and riding horses. I'm now so busy decoding signals and road signs that I've had to hire a personal assistant to keep up. This handy reference title illustrates and explains the vast majority of traffic signs that a road user is likely to encounter. It is important that ALL road users are aware of The Highway Code, are considerate to other road users and understand their responsibility for the safety of others.

The AA has an excellent track record with driving test titles and is the biggest seller of books in the genre after the Driving Standards Agency.

Every road user must have a full understanding of the rules and the penalties that are issued when they are not followed. You should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross a zebra crossing, and to pedestrians and cyclists waiting to cross a parallel crossing. With information on roads and road markings, motorways, traffic signs, documentation, the road user and the law, this is essential reading for all drivers – not just those learning to drive. You will also still be responsible for your passengers and anything else you are carrying (see Rules 98 to 102). In addition, the rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence.

Cyclists, horse riders and drivers of horse drawn vehicles likewise have a responsibility to reduce danger to pedestrians. Rules for drivers and motorcyclists, including vehicle condition, fitness to drive, alcohol and drugs, what to do before setting off, vehicle towing and loading, and seat belts and child restraints. Pedestrians may use any part of the road and use cycle tracks as well as the pavement, unless there are signs prohibiting pedestrians. Please Note: The text, graphics and content for this book have been sourced from the updated edition of 'The Official Highway Code' book and reproduced under licence from the HMSO. At a junction you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning.People cycling are asked to watch out for people driving intending to turn across their path, as people driving ahead may not be able to see them. This edition also includes the latest guidance on Self-driving Vehicles which was issued on 1 July 2022. The aim of The Highway Code is to promote safety on the road, whilst also supporting a healthy, sustainable and efficient transport system. The code has been updated to clarify that when turning into or out of a side road, people cycling should give way to people walking who are crossing or waiting to cross. Pick up your copy of the Official Highway Code from WHSmith today and begin your journey as a safe and considerate road user!
