About this deal

Short version: the main character’s ex-boyfriend has discovered a drug that allows you to see ghosts. Regardless, I will continue to read Chapman's work, he's definitely got the goods to produce an exceptionally horrific tale, this one just didn't quite knock it out of the park for me. It is the perfect metaphor for addiction, and while the ghosts are truly and incredibly scary, so is watching Erin completely wreck her life in the course of days, as well as seeing the other Ghost addicts as they spiral all in hopes of seeing a lost loved one again (a woman whose child died of SIDS was especially heartbreaking). So many of the ghosts that Erin sees aren’t the wandering war widow or the little white girl from Antebellum times, but those of POC who died in horrific ways because of racism, Colonialism, and genocidal violence. It seemed like the same thing kept happening for entirely too long before a bit more development took place.

Even the depiction of how the characters feel under the influence of Ghost was captivating, taking possession from being written as a painful experience or a battle against evil to an intimate experience, something euphoric—much like the experience of taking certain drugs. Rife with body horror and hallucinations, some of which may get a bit too trippy for some, the narrative sucks readers into its dark, disorienting world. I was equally as awed on the second reading as on the first, and I've no doubt I'll continue to feel the same way every time I reread it. Though the project itself is new the humans/creatures involved have been in the music and entertainment industry for more than a decade.Frederick Highland has been, according the seasons and the tides, a tropical agriculturalist, merchant seaman, and university lecturer.

The book is peopled with rich, enigmatic characters whose pasts are shrouded in mystery and whose motives are close held secrets.Ghost Eaters" by Clay McLeod Chapman starts out with a creepy epilogue that easily set the tone for what awaited.

This modern era marks the rise of giant Mega-corporations like Orion Tactical and Nihon Synthetic, which dominate global commerce and effectively puppeteer what's left of the the world's governments. When I first finished this book, I had to just wander around my apartment staring at things for a little while, trying to process my thoughts. Four friends, Erin, Silas, Amara and Tobias are college friends trying to find direction on life after school, Silas is an addict who Erin is unable to say no too, she has bailed him out too many times. If you're gonna put something in the synopsis, it needs to be poppin off immediately because the reader already knows the big "turning point" of the book. Book Description: From the acclaimed author of The Remaking and Whisper Down the Lane, this terrifying supernatural page-turner will make you think twice about opening doors to the unknown. You can spend an action, which has the concentrate trait, to focus on a creature inside of a solid object. An intense supernatural horror story about our addictions, compulsions, fears and how we live on within others.

Some of them are more unlikable than others, but even Erin is hard to relate to and never achieves any kind of meaningful character arc.Born an albino, his littermate Twistjaw had tried to crush his skull - however Ghosteater had killed him and devoured his ghost, the first of more than a hundred. Almost like a sweet dessert you've been looking forward to, only to find out it was made sugar-free, leaving you with a funky taste in your mouth.
