There are, of course, many other cool and interesting translations in the French translation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – from the translation of Dudley Dursley’s nickname Dudleykins to Dudlinouchet in French or the Hogwarts Houses, my favorite of which is Poufsouffle. He also looked at the word ‘wart’ and the word ‘hog’, ‘poud’ coming from the word wart and ‘lard’ implying fat/pig.

The translator must capture the sense, fun, and creativity of the original but make it work in their own language.
