Jeremy plans to implement his plans as he and Christine both practice for their school play, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. On the day that school play rehearsals begin, Jeremy plans to give a chocolate shaped like William Shakespeare to his crush, Christine Caniglia. As the cast prepares for the play, Jeremy encounters Christine, who is shaken and upset about the fire. Jeremy attends the fictional Middle Borough High School and is considered a loser by many of his peers; the popular girls have no interest in him, and he is constantly bullied.The novel ends with a personal note from Jeremy, stating that instead of a formal letter, the apology became a full-fledged book. Upon starting to read the book I got more and more into it and loved the differences from the musical and was really enjoying it. Similarly, Brooke plays a smaller role in the book than she does in the musical, where she gets her own solo song. Despite this production only having a limited time run of 5 performances, it was very well received by Dutch audiences. The only exception to this rule the young woman that our hero is in love with - and it turns out she’s “weird,” and hence “frigid.

What is just terrible about this book is that the author portrays and discusses girls and women as objects. When Jeremy takes the pill, the Squip helps him become cooler, acting as his own, internal life coach (that speaks directly into Jeremy’s brain in the voice of Keanu Reeves). At the house party, while looking for Michael, Jeremy and Christine find a few other Michaels until they find Mell. Although the production was scheduled to close on June 14, 2020, it was announced on June 3 that all remaining performances of the show would be cancelled following its early closure on March 16, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.The final chapter of the book reveals that the novel is the text the SQUIP wrote for Christine; whether she will forgive Jeremy is left ambiguous.
