It is a prequel, so we don't get to revisit the characters we loved as they're not in Viv's life yet, but don't worry, there are plenty of new characters to fall in love with. She also cusses all the time, barely reaches Viv's knee, and has an adorable pet gryphet named Potroast (see cover for reference). It's about having the knowledge that leaving, that closing the book, doesn't mean that the story is over.

I was so over the moon to be allowed an early copy of this book on NetGalley, as Legends and Lattes is one of my all time favourite reads of all.fern (the rattkin bookseller) really felt like a once in a lifetime character for me, because she really embodies the feeling and the power of seeing someone fall in love with books and reading and how special it feels when maybe you played a little part in that. I could have done without the necromancer bits but they don't detract from the "cozy" narrative that is at the heart of the novel. I adored "Legends and Lattes" and I guess it's rather a "me" problem and the book's fault, but there is only a specific amount of "cosy fantasy" that my system can tolerate, and it was saturated with the first installment.

She’d caught a fever while bouncing along in the litter behind a pack mule, coughing through all the dust it could raise. i feel very obliged to make this comparison dot in this review, and it truly means a lot to me and my heart: i started to read this when baldur’s gate 3 was dropping, and i couldn't help but really see the connection of how these characters we are kind of recruiting based on trust and friendship and how these explorations with them feels like discovering this seaside town’s map completely with each new quest.Overall it was a great enrichment to the saga as a whole, even if it didn’t land quite the same way. and 4 stars - This is a pretty darn successful follow up to the smash hit debut that was Legends and Lattes. Baldree creates an imaginative and fully-developed world, "peopled" with rich, warm, likeable characters. But she quickly gets to exploring this town, and meeting all the locals and their businesses, and soon enough viv finds many different kinds of adventures that will keep her busy while she waits for rackam to come back for her.
