People who successfully link job card together will do well but the board state can change so much so quickly that it’s hard to plan ahead. This worker placement and area control blend together create some fun decisions that you have to make. Job cards get you cash and grant you a special action which can range from moving a figure or stealing money out of people’s suitcase, to carrying out the game changing “Car Bomb” action. At two players the game is extremely close as you start with more figures and all attacks are directed one way.

It is very large, and I think this could have been fixed by not spacing everything out so much in the box. What’s perhaps most impressive about The Godfather: Corleone’s Empire is that it manages to distil all of these aspects – area control, worker placement, bidding auctions, set collection – into a board game that never once feels bloated or convoluted; turns and rounds flow comfortably, presenting complex decisions as straightforward options. With his health on the decline, jackals are stalking the streets and carving out slices of territory to pick clean. It features a great painting of Vito Corleone on the cover, which is also present on each edge of the box as well.

Randomly selected businesses are opened as the game progresses, giving players more choice and giving the game replay-ability.
