Our coop has a roof so is protected from the elements, I'm not sure how long it will last as the wood is very soft. I put in a layer when the weather isn't too cold and then add a new layer over the droppings each morning. We had to paint it when it arrived because in patches the wood was bare, the ladder is not appropriate for rabbits, so we had to back it with hardboard.
