About this deal

Sleek, succinct and utterly propulsive, it's Simz' defiantly punk rock, two fingered salute to conformity and fame, and all the expectations and restrictions that come with. Paired alongside the backing choir vocals, it only accentuates her unmissable dynamic sound that Simbi always nails. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Recorded once again with trusted confidant Inflo, Little Simz adds a little more punk rock a lot more classic feel good hip hop to the formula here, with tracks like ‘Silhouette’ and ‘Heart on Fire’ stacking funky breakbeats, stately horns, and immaculately cooed choral backing vocals atop her always deft rhymes to great effect. On NO THANK YOU she stashes the fanfare and goes back to rap basics, blasting the industry that will claim to have made her but in reality has left her drained.

Simz also saw setbacks in 2022, including a cancelled US tour, citing financial restrictions as an independent artist. A "reflective" track with " electronic coos," the song pays tribute to Simz's late childhood friend Harry Uzoka, a famous model who was killed in a stabbing in January 2018, and also examines Simz's fame, music industry complications, and personal endurance. Larisha Paul from Rolling Stone felt that "Throughout the film, Simz settles into a lead role surrounded by other Black performers to not only reject praise provided by external validation, but also reject the harmful myth of the strong Black women that more often than not erases the sympathy of human struggle by discrediting emotions that don't line up with the preconceived narrative prescribed to them.NPR named "Gorilla" the 100th best song of 2022, saying how Simz "displays command of her punchy rhymes with a cadence so casual it feels as if she could deliver them in her sleep.

Emma Wilkes from NME noted how these songs are "combined with visuals that present the rapper as a giant presiding over a flock and delivering her lines before a crowd of wealthy observers. Chances are you've already heard it, but if not, we can confirm that it's a genuinely brilliant set that more than lives up to the dizzy heights of its Mercury Prize-winning predecessor, 2021's Sometimes I Might Be Introvert.

She has a lot of important stuff to say, and the world would benefit from taking the time to listen to her.
