About this deal

In summary, the iRig HD 2 offers a quick and easy way to capture guitar, bass and line signals on the go. Just for kicks, I went ahead and installed the Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier amp model in AmpliTube 5 SE and used that for most of the testing. Plus as an added performance feature, iRig HD 2 has an integrated microphone stand “clip” and Velcro strap so you can secure it to a mic stand on stage for live performance. To take advantage of such software, we need a way to send our guitar’s signal into our computer or smartphone; Enter the guitar interface. iRig Mic HD 2 features an integrated headphone output with volume control that you can use for monitoring the audio signal or listen to high-resolution music on your device, (even on the latest iPhone 7.

With the toggle switch set to ‘THRU’ the output monitors the original, unprocessed signal at source, and when set to the ‘FX’ position will output the effected signal from IK’s own AmpliTube and the like. However, you can also use the amplifier output jack to go to your guitar amp, a powered speaker or studio monitors. The successor to IK Multimedia's popular iRig HD, the iRig HD 2 guitar interface features all the capabilities of its predecessor, along with some interesting new features. Next, we needed to download AmpliTube 4 for our Mac, and we’re thrilled to report that it comes included with the iRig.

As a reaction to the removal of the headphone socket on recent iPhone hardware, a headphone preamp with a mini-jack output has been added to the specification and provides a far neater solution than monitoring output signals through the iOS device’s own headphone socket. If you want to utilize the AmpliTube 4 software, the HD 2 is going to be the most compatible and convenient interface to do so.One small gripe is that AmpliTube doesn’t quite stretch to the full screen on our MacBook Pro’s Retina display, but it’s not a very big deal. A bigger and better audio interface is the obvious way for me to go – I have learned a lesson of some sort with this IK Multimedia fiasco.

Italian manufacturer IK Multimedia is in that mix, with their flagship AmpliTube amplifier and effects modeling software and plug-in. There’s even a little volume knob on the side of the iRig so you can adjust the volume no matter your preference or what type of headphones you use.

The iRig HD 2 comes nicely boxed with all the necessary cables for whatever device you want to hook up to.
