The process is a little longer and more expensive than other methods, but the results are the most reliable. Decorators caulk does accept stain and it will darken down from its original colour when stain/varnish is applied. Now gently ease off the first drop at the ceiling and cut with scissors and repeat for all drops top and bottom. Alternatively, run masking tap along the wall and top of skirting board to create a small channel in which to apply the caulk. MDF skirting doesn’t need sanding, but if you’re using softwood or hardwood boards they may need lightly sanding and treating before fitting.

Acrylic latex caulk: It’s good for long-term projects, made from latex and acrylic combines such as Dap. The deck has a pitch to it and water does drain down the channel created by the spline in the seams and now water exits where I want it to. If you’re filling in space between the wall and existing skirting, use a damp cloth to clean the area. It is used to fill gaps and is waterproof, but it remains more flexible than caulk, but can’t be painted over. There is nothing worse than cutting a drop of wallpaper an inch or two short, as it renders it useless and can be an expensive mistake.
