LENT ROUNDUP
Ash Wednesday on March 6th marks the start of Lent. Services on Ash Wednesday at St Mary's are 10am (said) and 8pm (sung), both with ashing.

Lent Group: The Well Prepared Course Mondays Lady Chapel at St. John's at 8pm, starting 11th March and Tuesdays 2pm starting on March 5th in St. Mary's Refectory, following the 'Well Prepared' course by the Rev'd Dr Joanna Collicutt and the Rev'd Victoria Slater. The first session is Tuesday 5th March 2pm in the Refectory with solicitor, Diana Davis who will help us think about making legal preparations and wills. As a society we're not good at talking about death, and as individuals we may try and avoid thinking about it. Yet as we get older it's natural for us to think more deeply about the issues that face us in our final years. We may look back over our lives and wonder if we have 'made a good job of things', have some memories we really want to pass on, what happens after death, feel a need to make our peace with someone, finally get around to making a will. The course provides a safe and pleasant space to talk about these issues. There will be discussion, music, poetry, art, Bible reflection, prayer, tea & cake. You are welcome to mix and match between evening and afternoon groups.

Lent Group: The Making Group Thursdays at 7.30pm Making Group in the refectory: This Lent we shall be exploring the Stations of the Resurrection and creating visual representations of six of them as focal points of worship during our Easter season. We shall meet in the Refectory on Thursday evenings from 7.30pm, beginning on 7th March. All are welcome, and please sign the list at the back of the church. David & Rosemary Meara.

Lent Compline Compline will be at 9pm each Sunday in Lent preceded by a short talk at 8.45 by Professor John Morris. It will also be held on Mon, Tues, and Wed of Holy week at the same times.

Lent collection 2019 If you are planning on refraining from specific food /drink in Lent a suggestion is to collect the money saved and donate it to support the work of our CMS mission partners, Joel and Fiona Kelling for their work in Jordan and the Middle East.

TEA TALKS 2019
Thanks to everyone who helped with the Tea Talks this year, those who spoke, made cakes, served teas and to all of you who attended. We are delighted that they are enjoyed and that we manage to raise some money for Church buildings and projects. They will be back next year, beginning in January.
REGULAR GIVING
New Planned Giving envelopes for 2019/20 will start on 7th April. If you currently use envelopes but think now would be a good time to change to a bank standing order, or direct debit via the Parish Giving Scheme then please do let me know and I'll give you the necessary paperwork. If you do not give regularly via the Planned Giving scheme (envelopes, standing orders, direct debits or cheques) then please do consider it as the best way of giving the parish the regular income it needs to keep everything running. Also, if you are a tax-payer, putting cash into the collection rather than using Planned Giving means that the parish is losing out on the Gift Aid we could claim from the government on all that you give (and higher-rate tax payers would also be losing out on the refund they could claim). For more information, forms, envelopes etc, then please just ask. Margaret Day (tel: 375916).
PROGRAMME EDITOR/CREATOR NEEDED
for the Fete Programme. There is a successful programme style, which can be followed again. Attending some of the Fete meetings may prove advantageous, but is not essential. The current programme is created using Publisher, which is easy to use & training is available. Please contact Tilly for further information on 01865 460038.
DECORATING PARTY NEEDED
Now that the Refectory is waterproof and has had a chance to dry out, we are keen to see it spruced up, so we need a decorating team to clean and redecorate. If this is something you could help with please contact Tilly on 01865 460038
FAIRTRADE EASTER EGGS
available to order now - make a difference AND have a sweet Easter! Sign-up sheet and details of products available at coffee time, or see Jill, Tilly or Janet.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER 1st March
All are invited to share in a special service to celebrate the World Day of Prayer at St John's Church in Kidlington on Friday 1st March, 7.00pm. WDP is an international and ecumenical day of prayer using resources produced by women. In the UK this may not seem very radical but there are parts of the world in which women are considered second class citizens and the chance to take part in planning and leading this service gives them a voice. This year the service was written by women in Slovenia with the theme of Come - Everything is Ready! This is a gift to the whole church and men, women and children are all invited and encouraged to come and worship with them and people around the world. You are warmly invited to this service. There will be refreshments after the service. We look forward to seeing you there.
